Prince Alfons of Bavaria - Saxe-Weimar - Order of the White Falcon
Grand Duchy of Saxe-Weimar, Order of Vigilance, called the White Falcon. 2nd version (1815 - 1918), Grand Cross, issued with a laurel wreath around the reverse medallion and with a small agraffe below the crown, in gold, weight circa 70 g, exquisitely engraved and chased, in a guilloche pattern, green and red enamel, sewn onto the original old sash. Dimenasions 97 x 65 mm. The breast star of the Grand Cross, silver, appliqués in gold, enamelled, four round-head rivets, jeweller's mark on the back "Th. Müller Hofjuwelier Weimar". Dimensions 88 x 88 mm. In a gold-embossed leather presentation case, the typewritten label in the white silk lining reads "Nr. 15 Sachsen-Weimar - Orden der Wachsamkeit od. vom weissen Falken - Erhalten: 13. Januar 1901 vom Familienchef" (tr. "No. 15 Saxe-Weimar - Order of the White Falcon - Received: 13 January 1901 from the head of the family"). Inside, instructions for wearing the order, a handwritten label on the reverse "Sachsen-Weimar - Band m. Orden u. Stern" (tr. "Saxe-Weimar - ribbon with order and star"). Also, a cabinet photograph of Prince Alfons with his wife Luise, taken by the court photographer Josef Albert in Munich, in uniform and decorations but without the Order of the White Falcon.
Established on 2 August 1732 by Ernest Augustus, Duke of Saxe-Weimar, the award was replaced by a triple category general order of merit on 18 October 1815. The number of members was restricted, to twelve in the case of the Grand Crosses, with the exception of any princes born to the house.
